ALLEN - Dallas gymnast Hollie Vise hadn't even planned to compete in the all-around at the World Olympic Gymnastics Academy Classic on Saturday at Allen High School. By after Vise did the three events she had planned to do, she felt so good she decided to compete in the fourth rotation, the floor exercise, too. It was a smart decision -- she ended up winning the senior all-around division of the meet, which featured gymnasts from six countries. Vise, who trains at World Olympic Gymnastics Academy in Plano, scored 36.975 points to edge out Australia's Monette Russo for the win. "My coach said [Vise's competing in the all-around] depended on how I felt at the time, and I did pretty good on the first three events, so I figured 'Why not?'" said Vise, 16, the 2003 world co-champion on the uneven bars. "I'm glad I did it. I think it went pretty good tonight." The meet featured several of the world's top gymnasts. The 15-year-old Russo was a balance beam finalist at the 2003 world championships, but bobbled on the beam Saturday and settled for an all-around score of 36.825. World Olympic's Nina Kim was third with 35.60 points. Russo tied for first in the
senior vault division with Russia's Leysira Gabdrakhmanova, with both girls
scoring a 9.5. Vise won the senior uneven bars with a 9.65 and the balance beam
with a 9.475. Among the athletes from Russia was Yulia Khorkina, the younger sister of world and Olympic champion Svetlana Khorkina. The 20-year-old Yulia is lanky like her famous sibling, and even performed one of her sister's old floor exercise routines. Yulia Khorkina said the choreography and music of the routine was exactly the same as when Svetlana performed it three years ago. "It's like everything when you have older and younger kids in the family," she said. "It's a hand-me-down." World Olympic's Nastia Liukin won the junior all-around title, with Ukraine's Daria Zgoba second and Russia's Nadia Ivanova third. Liukin also won the beam and floor titles, while Ivanova claimed the vault gold and Zgoba the bars.
